Fun Ford Weekend Schedule Announced for Bristol’s Thunder Valley Weekend

Ford Power Thunders in the Valley, June 29, 2012 – June 30, 2012

The 2012 Fun Ford Weekend presented by Roush Yates, JE Pistons and Joe Gibbs Driven is back at Bristol Dragway and it’s better than ever. High-performance racing action, Ford’s sweetest street machines and extreme exhibition vehicles make the June 29-30 event one of the most exciting Ford events around.

Action begins on Friday with a test and tune session open to all manufacturers. The day also includes Ford vs. The World, an event that pits the Fords against all comers. Ford fans should come cheer their favorite brand to victory over the invading Chevys and Mopars.

Electronics and non-electronics will run separate in Ford vs. The World competition until there are four cars remaining in each class. The classes then will be combined to determine the ultimate champion.

Exciting Ford-only competition continues on Saturday in Fast Ford (Electronics), Quick Ford (Non-Electronics), Street Ford (1/4 mile), True Street, Mustang Street Fight, Tuff Truck and the Virginia Lasers Shootout.

True Street racers will follow a police escort on a predetermined route throughout the local area to prove their machines are street-worthy. Once they return, they’ll battle to see which can run closest to its index.

The Mustang Street Fight Class is open to any street-legal Ford vehicle. Trophies will be awarded for quickest elapsed time, best reaction time and best appearing.

Yesterday’s classics, as well as today’s favorites, will be on hand in the car show display area on Saturday. Participants and spectators can enjoy a parking lot full of the hottest Ford show cars and drag cars. Any Ford die-hard looking for special memorabilia or those hard-to-find parts also will want to check out the vendors’ midway and the swap meet and car corral.

AIRAID Joins Track-Owned Drag Race and Car Show Series

May 30, 2012 – AIRAID Filter Company announced today that it has joined the Super Chevy Show, Fun Ford Weekend  and Mega Mopar Action Series as a sponsor. AIRAID, a manufacturer of cold air intake systems and performance filters for daily driven gas and diesel vehicles, muscle cars, and street machines is using the promotion to reach automotive enthusiasts of the popular domestic vehicle brands.

AIRAID’s participation in the three Series will begin with the Mega Mopar Action Series event at Bandimere Speedway in Denver, CO on Sunday, June 3. Bandimere Speedway, along with Maple Grove Raceway, Texas Motorplex, Bristol Dragway, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Virginia Motorsports Park, Royal Purple Raceway, Castrol Raceway, Rockingham Dragway, Palm Beach International Raceway, Memphis International Raceway, and Gateway Motorsports Park own and operate all of the Super Chevy Show, Fun Ford Weekend, and Mega Mopar Action Series events.

David Edelman, Online and Event Marketing Manager for AIRAID said the Series provides a great fit for their customer base. “We have applications for basically every type of vehicle you see at a Super Chevy Show, Fun Ford Weekend or Mega Mopar Action Series event. Every day we are selling air intake systems and performance filters to owners of cars and trucks wanting more horsepower and increased fuel efficiency,” said Edelman. “Whether it is a participant in the car show that drove their car to the event to be judged for awards, or someone running in one of the bracket racing classes, our products offer a very cost effective and simple installation process to give them an advantage.”

In the month of June, fans of each of the “big-three” branded popular car show and drag race Series will see AIRAID promotions beginning at Denver, then moving to Maple Grove Raceway’s Mega Mopar Action Series event June 9-10; Virginia Motorsports Park Fun Ford Weekend, June 15-17; Gateway Motorsports Park Super Chevy Show, June 22-24; Bandimere Speedway Fun Ford Weekend, June 23-24; Bristol Dragway Fun Ford Weekend, June 29-30. Another fourteen Series events will take place in the U.S. and Canada from July through October.

Maple Grove Raceway track operator and president of the Super Chevy Show series, Lex Dudas, as well as the other track operators are excited to have AIRAID get involved in all three series. “I think AIRAID joining the Series events in a testament to the great shows we have already had this year. Outside of some weather at a few events, our shows have been growing ever since the tracks took over leadership in 2010. Our car counts for car show, drag race, and swap meet are up across the board for the Super Chevy Show and Fun Ford Weekend series, and the Mega Mopar Action Series just kicked off two weeks ago with a great event at the Texas Motorplex” said Dudas. “We can create a tremendous amount of exposure for AIRAID Filter Company and look forward to promoting their brand at all of our shows this season.”

For full Stock Eliminator and Super Stock rules, consult the 2012 NHRA Rule Book.

Example of vehicle weights and elimination run:
Vehicle 1: 2010 4.6L 3V Cobra Jet Stocker coupe automatic – 3,050 lbs. as listed on NHRA.com. This is a natural J Stock Automatic with an index of 12.45 ET.

Vehicle 2: 2008 5.4L Cobra Jet Super Stocker coupe automatic – 3,240 lbs. as listed on NHRA.com. This is a natural Super Stock D Automatic with an index of 10.20 ET.

In Eliminations:
The difference in competition indexes for these two vehicles is 2.25 seconds (12.45 – 10.20 = 2.25)

Vehicle 1 will leave first
Vehicle 2 will leave 2.25 seconds later
The first vehicle to cross the finish line wins the race!

Non-Competition Index Races
Races pairing two Cobra Jet Mustangs in the same class will be run heads-up.

Legendary Ford Racer Roy Hill To Attend Maple Grove Raceway Fun Ford Weekend

April 28, 2012 by
Filed under Events, Feature Story, Latest News

MOHNTON, Pa. – Roy Hill has been a loyal Ford driver since 1982. That’s been a quality of the North Carolina native and drag racer since he started his competition career as a teenager; companies that have helped him over the years like Goodyear and Coca-Cola have a friend in Hill who drives a 2012 Cobra Jet Mustang in the NHRA Super Stock class.

So it shouldn’t be a surprise that Hill, who worked with such racing giants as Richard Petty, Ronnie Sox and Buddy Martin, was asked to be a celebrity car show judge and match race at the Fun Ford Weekend that comes to Maple Grove Raceway on Aug. 18-19.

“Being involved in Ford, we were fortunate to have the first Cobra Jet in 2010 to purchase and put in my school,” said Hill, who has trained numerous racers over the years. “Ford is a couple of years ahead of where the Dodge Drag Pak cars and the Camaros will be,” Hill added. “Ford has the advantage right now. We know that Dodge and GM can catch up. I’m feeling good about the engine program, but we’re not going to stop. We’re developing a modular 5.4 engine in there and the difference in the 2013 car will be 250 pounds lighter. They will still be fast.”

Hill’s Picks
Hill will bring a couple of those Mustangs to The Grove for some match racing during the August Fun Ford Weekend event. Also, Hill will go to the car show and pick his 25 favorite cars. On Saturday, Aug. 18, “Hill’s Picks” will be honored at Fun Ford Weekend. Out of that group, 12 cars will be selected to participate in 50 Cars for 50 Years at the Auto-Plus NHRA Nationals. The winners will have admission covered to the Oct. 7 car show at the Nationals for himself and one crew member.

For those potential car show participants who want to catch Hill’s eyes, here are some hints: Make your car stand out. Both the car and driver need to have some personality. “The first thing is which car will get my attention,” Hill said.. “Appearance means everything. The person that’s showing the car also means a lot. Then you start nitpicking. If it’s nice I don’t mind telling a person. It means a lot.”

As for the racing aspect of Hill’s season, he’s participated in NHRA Nationals at Gainesville and Charlotte. “We’ve run good, run fast,” Hill said. “We made it to semifinals at Gainesville. We went into Charlotte, won class and set new record, 8.26 at 166 mph, but in the first round I was too early.”

Hill said he has no plans to slow down, even in the up-and-down world of racing. “To be in this sport as long as I have I know what it will be like,” Hill said. “It won’t get me down. I work real hard and take good and bad and take bad with good. I’m excited still. Even though we haven’t won, we’re running good. I’m excited at 66 to do shows and match racing.”
